Unlike traditional blockchains, GHOSTDAG does not orphan blocks created in parallel but allows them to coexist and orders them in consensus. This innovative approach transforms the blockchain into a blockDAG, enhancing the efficiency and speed of transactions.

Kaspa's implementation includes several advanced features and subprotocols. These include Reachability, which allows querying the DAG's topology, and Block data pruning, with plans for block header pruning in the near future. The protocol also supports SPV proofs and aims to facilitate future layer 2 solutions through subnetwork support.
How it works
The GHOSTDAG protocol enables Kaspa to maintain very high block rates, currently achieving one block per second, with aspirations to reach 10 blocks per second and even 100 blocks per second. The confirmation times are minimal, primarily influenced by internet latency. This generalization of Nakamoto consensus ensures secure operation while maintaining rapid transaction processing.
