How it works
LPT serves as a bonding mechanism in a delegated proof of stake system, where stake is delegated to transcoders (validators) who transcode video and validate work. The token and potential slashing for protocol violations secure the network against attacks. It routes work through the network based on staked and delegated tokens, acting as a coordination mechanism. LPT is a unit of account specific to the Livepeer ecosystem, supporting additional functionalities like DVR, closed captioning, ad insertion, and analytics. An initial allocation of LPT will be distributed for stakeholders to fulfill roles and use the network, with additional tokens issued algorithmically over time.
