Managing Your Access Code

How can I change my access code?

Method 1: If you forgot your access code

If you forget the access code for one or all of your devices, you can reset them and assign a new access code. You need two devices: the one with the access code you want to change and another device to confirm the reset.

1. If you are not using biometric authentication, open the Tangem app, scan the device you want to reset the access code for, and proceed to s
tep 5 of these instructions.
If using biometric authentication, open the Tangem app and tap the three dots in the upper right corner of the homepage.
2. Select the desired wallet from the list.
3. Go to Device settings.
4. Scan the device whose access code you want to reset.
5. On the next screen, tap Forgot your code?
6. Enter a new access code twice.
The access code can consist of any word, phrase, or number that you want to use as the access code. The minimum number of characters is 4; the maximum number is unlimited.
7. Tap Continue and scan the device you want to reset the access code for. Wait for the 15-second countdown to end.
8. Tap Continue and scan the backup device (the second or third card/ring in the set). Wait for the 15-second countdown to end.
9. Scan the device for which you want to change the access code once again.

Your forgotten access code has been successfully reset, and you can now use the new access code.

7. Select Change Access Code, use biometric authentication, or enter the current access code.
8. Enter the new access code twice and tap Continue.
The access code can consist of any word, phrase, or number you want to use as an access code. The minimum number of characters is 4; the maximum number is unlimited.
9. Scan the device for which you are changing the access code.

Detailed instructions are also available in our blog article: How to change the access code on Tangem Wallet.

Important: The access code is stored on each Tangem device separately. When you change the access code, it changes only on the selected device. If you want to change/reset the access code on other devices, you must repeat the procedure with each one.

How can I disable the access code recovery option?

Tangem Wallet 2.0 now lets you turn off the option to recover your access code with a backup device. This makes your wallet safer, but keep in mind that if you disable this feature and lose your access code, you won't be able to recover it.

Key points about this feature
If the code recovery option is turned off for a device, you cannot recover the access code on that device or use it to recover the code on another device.

How to enable/disable access code recovery
1. Open the Tangem app and tap on the three dots in the top right corner.
2. Select the desired wallet from the list.
3. Next, go to Device Settings.
4. Tap Scan and place the device near your smartphone's NFC module.
5. Enter your access code.
6. Tap Continue and place the device near your smartphone's NFC module.
7. Select Recover access code. Turn this option on or off.
8. Tap Save Changes and confirm the action using the access code and device.
9. Repeat these steps for each device from the backup if you want to apply the same settings to all.

If you forget your access code, you can't recover it after disabling recovery. So, think carefully before turning off this feature.

Important: This information is only valid for the second-generation Tangem 2.0 wallets or later.
