Version Differences
What is the difference between Tangem Wallet 1.0 and Tangem Wallet 2.0?
Here's a thorough comparison between Tangem Wallet 1.0 and Tangem Wallet 2.0:
Tangem Wallet 1.0
— Does not support seed phrase generation
— Does not support wallet import via a seed phrase
— Does not allow disabling access code recovery
Note: Production of Tangem Wallet 1.0 has been discontinued.
Tangem Wallet 2.0
— Supports seed-phrase generation. Users can choose to create a wallet with or without a seed phrase. If created without a seed phrase, the process is similar to Tangem Wallet 1.0. Activation of the seed phrase is optional, giving users the choice.
— Supports importing a wallet with a seed phrase of 12, 15, 18, 21, or 24 words, with the option of an additional passphrase.
— Allows you to disable the ability to restore an access code using a backup card.
If this feature is disabled on a specific Tangem device, you cannot restore the access code on it, nor can you use it to restore the access code on another Tangem device.
App updates are available for all Tangem Wallet versions, and both generations support the same coins and tokens.
Note that Tangem Wallet 2.0 can only be backed up with devices of the same generation, and the same applies to Tangem Wallet 1.0.
What is the difference between standard black and wallets with customised designs?
Our co-branded wallets (except the Shiba Inu Tangem cards) have the same functionality as the second-generation Tangem Wallet 2.0 cards. The only difference is the color and design.
What is the difference between sets of 2 and 3 cards?
The only difference is the number of cards. Additional cards are necessary for backup. The number of cards you have in your backup (2 or 3) determines how many copies of your private key exist in the world. If one card is lost or stolen, the backup cards will ensure that you can still access your wallet.
If you have three cards, you have more options to recover access to your wallet than with two cards. If one card is lost or stolen, you have another card to access your wallet. However, if you lose one card and forget your access code, a third card will be needed to reset it.
Therefore, we recommend purchasing a set of three devices.
