Access Code Issues

How do I recover my forgotten access code?

If you have forgotten the access code for one or more of your devices, you can reset it in the Tangem app. To reset your access code, you will need two devices: the device whose access code you want to change and a backup device to confirm the reset.

To reset your access code, follow the instructions:
1. If you do not use biometric authentication, open the Tangem app, scan the device you want to reset the access code, and proceed to step 5 of these instructions.
If you are using biometric authentication, open the Tangem app and tap on the three dots in the upper-right corner of the home screen.
2. Select the desired wallet from the list.
3. Go to Device settings.
4. Scan the device you want to reset the access code for.
5. On the access code entry screen, tap Forgot your code?.
6. On the next screen, enter your new access code twice.
The access code can be any word, phrase, or number you choose. The minimum number of characters is 4, and the maximum number is unlimited.
7. Tap Continue and scan the device for which you want to reset the access code. Wait for the 15-second countdown.
8. Tap Continue and attach a backup device (the second or third from the set). Wait for another 15-second countdown.
9. Scan the device for which you want to change the access code once more.

Your forgotten access code has been successfully changed, and you can now use your new access code.

Detailed instructions are also available in our blog article: How to reset your password on Tangem Wallet.

Important: The access code is stored separately on each device. Therefore, when you change the access code, it changes only on the selected device. If you want to change/reset the access code on other device, repeat the procedure with each one.

An error message appears when trying to change the access code: "This card cannot be used to reset the access code"

To reset the access code, you will need two Tangem devices: the device whose access code you want to change, and an additional device from the backup to confirm the reset.

This error occurs when you try to scan a Tangem device that is not linked to your current wallet. This means that the scanned Tangem device is not associated with the same wallet as the device for which you are trying to change the access code.

If you reset all but one of the linked devices, you cannot restore the access code for the leftover one. In addition, you can't factory reset this device without entering the current access code.

Error 41301 when changing the access code

To reset the access code, you will need two Tangem devices: the device whose access code you want to change, and an additional device from the backup to confirm the reset.

Error 41301 occurs in two cases:
1. This error appears if you scan the same device instead of a backup one.
Remember: during the "Scan backup device" step, you must scan a different device from the backup set, e.g., another card or ring linked to the current wallet, not the exact device you are trying to reset.

2. This error also occurs if you are trying to scan a Tangem device that is not linked to your current wallet. This means that the scanned Tangem device is not associated with the same wallet as the device for which you are trying to change the access code.

If you reset all but one of the linked devices, you cannot restore the access code for the leftover one. In addition, you can't factory reset this device without entering the current access code.
